Granite
The most common headstone material in modern American cemeteries. Granite is hard, weather-resistant, and accepts a clean sandblast. Color depends on the quarry: shades of gray (the default), black ("absolute black" from India and South Africa), red, and pink are widely available. Granite stones can typically be inscribed in place at the cemetery without removal.
